White House Unveils Energy Plan, Incentives for Hydrogen & Fuel
Cells. President Bush's National Energy Policy Development Group (NEPDG)
issued its long-awaited report calling for a series of 105 recommendations,
many of which could impact the use of fuel cells and hydrogen. Recommendations
of interest to the fuel cell industry include: tax credits for the production
of electricity from landfill methanol gas that could employ fuel cells;
development of a hydrogen education campaign; tax credits for the purchase
of new hybrid or fuel cell vehicles between 2002 and 2007; support of the
DOT's fuel cell-powered transit bus program; and encouraging the development
of combined heat and power units.
