There is only one nuclear power station in Iowa, this is the Duane Arnold Energy Center, near Palo. However, two other stations have 10 mile Emergency Planning Zones that lie within Iowa. These are the Fort Calhoun Nulcear Station, north of Omaha in Nebraska, and the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station north of the Quad Cities in Illinois. In addition to the 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone, federal guidelines require that ingestion pathway concerns be addressed within a 50 mile radius of every nuclear power plant. The Ingestion Pathway Zone (IPZ) for the Cooper Nuclear Station, south of Omaha, impacts the south-western corner of the state.
