For the second time in recent years, the oil giant Shell has been accused of influencing editorial judgement in a bid to slant coverage critical of its conduct. Today's Guardian says Shell is trying to close down a website, called nuclearcrimes.com, which alleges irregularities in the company's handling of nuclear waste in the 1960s. John Dyer, author of the site, also alleges that Shell's response to his research effectively halted the production of a documentary on the subject which had been commissioned by Carlton Television. Dyer claims that Shell authorized the dumping of high-level nuclear waste in
